According to experts, smartphones often store a huge list of old, unused connections, and each of them is a potential vulnerability.

Kaspersky Lab cybersecurity expert Leonid Bezvershenko told the newspaper that users in public places often connect to open Wi-Fi networks for free internet.

“When you connect to a new access point, the device automatically saves the selected network so you don’t have to waste time entering data in the future,” he says.

Bezvershenko added that users often do not pay attention to the list of such registered Wi-Fi networks on their devices, which leads to data accumulation on old connections.

According to Pavel Kuznetsov, product manager at Garda Technologies, the main danger of such connections is that the device will most likely try to transmit application data, usually sent via legitimate wireless connections, through them, and this information can be intercepted by attackers.
