Startup ‘diagnosed’ cancer in 400 patients at the same time

In May, more than 400 patients from medical startup Grail received letters that had diagnosed them with cancer. according to the newspaper Finance Timesall customers subscribed to the latest cancer detection test developed by an American company.

According to an internal Grail document seen by the FT, 408 patients were mistakenly told they had a marker in their blood that was most likely to indicate cancer.

A spokesperson for Grail told the publication the emails were “accidentally” sent by telehealth provider PWNHealth. According to him, the employees of the enterprise immediately contacted the affected customers, convincing them of erroneous test results.

According to the FT, Grail also admitted that more than half of those who received the letters had not yet donated blood for the Galleri test.

A test called Galleri is designed to detect various types of cancer early. It is claimed that with a single ampoule of biomaterial, the system can test and detect more than 50 different types of cancer. Grail offers to beat Galleri for $950 (77.9 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate) for a test.
