According to Sheikin, in the Russian Federation it is necessary to create an analogue of the “Chinese firewall”, given the unprecedented pressure from Western countries and the ongoing hostile policy. Such a system would be able to completely block access to unwanted Internet resources, including VPN services, if Russian legislation continues to be ignored.

The politician cited Wikipedia as an example, which has become an “information weapon” in the hands of Western countries and where many historical and political facts about Russia are deliberately distorted.

Sheikin stressed that the practice of recent years has shown that it is quite difficult to maintain the self-regulation of social networks‌ and websites, and therefore a more responsible approach to the regulation of this industry is required.

The senator noted that it is necessary to examine the country’s technological equipment issues separately. We are talking about the possibility of limiting the operation of Internet platforms and slowing down traffic in case of non-compliance with national regulatory requirements.
