By the end of 2023, foldable smartphone shipments will reach 19.8 million, 55% more than last year’s 12.8 million devices. In this respect says New report from analytics company TrendForce.

The growing popularity of foldable smartphones is driven by the reduction in the cost of key components such as OLED displays and custom hinges. The reduction in the cost of these parts also brings a reduction in the final cost of smartphones.

Increased competition also affects lower prices and increased popularity. Samsung still dominates the foldable niche, but Huawei is catching up fast. In addition, brands such as Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor and Tecno have joined the race in the last few years.

According to TrendForce, smartphones with flexible screens make up only 0.4% of the total smartphone market in 2020. In 2023, this figure will increase to 1.7%. And by the end of 2027, “oysters” will occupy 5.3% of the smartphone market.
