Mercedes-Benz has announced the launch of its Digital Car Key feature, which allows new E-Class owners to drive without physical keys using their iPhone and Apple Watch. In this respect informs 9to5mac portal.
Digital Car Key is based on Apple Car Key technology currently supported by some BMW, Kia, Hyundai, Genesis and BYD models. It allows users to lock, unlock and start the vehicle using their iPhone or Apple Watch. Keys are stored in the Wallet app and can be shared with other iPhone users via AirDrop, iMessage or other messaging services.
The primary user of a Mercedes me account can assign different rights to the recipients of the keys, granting access only to the vehicle, or allowing the vehicle to be used. The car can recognize multiple users at the same time, and up to 16 people can use the digital car key.
It is stated that Mercedes-Benz plans to offer this feature to other vehicles in the future.
