As part of its Display Week 2023 exhibition in Los Angeles, Samsung introduced a new type of display for smartphones that can measure a user’s heart rate and blood pressure when touched with a finger. In this respect informs version of Zdnet.

The technology is called Sensor OLED. The new screens differ from analogues in that they have photosensitive sensors to scan fingerprints over the entire area. The sensors read the LED light reflected from the finger and recognize the unique pressure on the skin.

However, light also penetrates the skin and is reflected from the blood vessels. In this way, the system determines the relaxation and contraction phases of blood vessels, which allows the display to determine heart rate, blood pressure, as well as stress level.

Samsung Display also exhibited the Rollabel Flex display at the fair. It is a flexible curtain rolled up to a length of less than 5 cm. The screen can be opened up to a width of 25.5 cm.

Both developments can be used on the company’s smartphones in the future.
