TikTok lawyers have sued the state authorities of Montana (USA) who have banned the social network of the same name from their territory. In this respect informs ABC news.
“To protect our business and the hundreds of thousands of social media users in the state, we will appeal the unconstitutional TikTok ban in Montana. We believe our legal challenge will benefit from a very compelling set of precedents and facts, TikTok said in a statement.
In the lawsuit, the company also argues that restricting TikTok in Montana violates the US Constitution’s First Amendment guarantees for freedom of speech.
The Montana government passed a law banning the popular social networking in April 2023. According to the text of the document, Google and Apple will have to remove the TikTok app from the App Store and Google Play. The service is not expected to be blocked.
If the social network’s lawyers can’t prove in court that this requirement is illegal, IT companies will have to apply to Montana authorities starting January 1, 2024. Otherwise, Google and Apple will be fined $10,000 for each day of non-compliance with local law requirements.
