A group of TikTok users has filed a lawsuit to challenge a recently passed law that prohibits the use of the TikTok app in the US state of Montana. It has been reported Border.
According to the lawsuit, the state does not have the power to prohibit the exchange of views because it violates the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which does not allow violations of freedom of speech.
“Montana cannot ban the Wall Street Journal because of its owner or the ideas it publishes, nor can it prohibit its residents from viewing or posting on TikTok,” the plaintiffs said.
This week, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte banned TikTok from use in the state, arguing that the app is protecting residents’ personal data from foreign agents because it belongs to China-based company ByteDance. Later Gianforte restricted use Telegram and WeChat are among the authorities for a similar reason.
