The Institute for Radio Engineering Systems and Control (IRTSU), affiliated with the Southern Federal University (SFU), has developed a compact device for monitoring year-round weather in the fields. University student Vladislav Samchinsky, one of the authors of the project, told socialbites.ca about this.
“A farmer living near Taganrog came to us and asked us to conduct research on the production of weather stations for year-round monitoring of environmental parameters in his fields. We thought we could produce weather stations much cheaper than existing ones. With the help of simple modifications, our weather station can be adapted to monitor the weather on the coast of the resort or part of the route,” said Samchinsky.
The cost of a personal weather station will be about 10 thousand rubles. Competitors of the device, developed according to Samchinsky, cost 75-100 thousand rubles.
The basic package of the weather station includes: a temperature, humidity and air pressure sensor, a wind speed and direction sensor, a precipitation sensor, a soil temperature and humidity sensor. It also has a built-in solar panel and a Wi-Fi module for battery charging and data transfer, respectively.
The station receives indicators at a specific point in which it is installed. Samchinsky explained that the prototype of the weather station was tested over the winter, and now the second, summer phase of testing has begun. A web application is also being developed to receive data from the station and control the device.
It was previously reported that MSU. created Mosclim 2.0 weather and climate service for monitoring and analyzing weather and climatic conditions in the Moscow region.
