Japanese company Kyocera has announced it is withdrawing from the mobile phone market after reporting a record loss of $16.6 million in February 2023. Portal reports GSM Arena.
Kyocera will also continue to serve corporate customers by leaving the consumer segment only. “We can no longer compete in the global market,” said Hideo Tanimoto, President of Kyocera.
Kyocera was one of the oldest companies in the phone market – it has been producing mobile devices since 1989. In 2021, another legendary manufacturer, South Korean company LG, closed its smartphone division. LG said in an official statement that moving away from the mobile phone business will allow it to focus on other areas, including smart homes, artificial intelligence, robotics and more.
