“When it comes to AI, especially Siri, Apple has lagged behind a leader. Google and Microsoft are showing mind-blowing successes. “Apple’s efforts in this area have been relatively weak.”

Siri was introduced to the world 12 years ago in 2011 and was subsequently considered a breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence. But Gartenberg said that Siri hasn’t lived up to its potential, and that the AI efforts of Google and OpenAI have largely overshadowed it.

According to the expert, Siri cannot cope with non-standard user questions and still has poor integration with third-party applications. “Siri can only perform tasks within the Apple ecosystem, while Google Assistant and ChatGPT have integrations with a wide variety of apps,” Gartenberg said.

He warned the company would face a disappointing fate if AI projects didn’t improve in the coming years, and suggested three steps that could change that.

“Apple should invest in developing Siri capabilities for more complex tasks like making appointments, booking and ordering food. We should invest in improving Siri’s language recognition capabilities to make it easier for users to interact with the voice assistant. And most importantly, Apple should make the Siri platform open to encourage its wider and more active use,” said the former top executive of the tech giant.
