The security service of Sberbank reported a massive phishing attack – bank employees received emails inviting them to visit the military registration and enlistment office “to clarify personal data.” This “socialbites.ca” became aware of the press release of the company.
A file named “Mobilization order” has been added to the affected letters. When opened, the virus can infect the entire IT infrastructure of the bank. Sberbank does not exclude that other organizations may be exposed to the same attacks, and therefore it is necessary to remain vigilant.
Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, said, “Of course, military registries and enlistments do not send subpoenas or any other official notification by e-mail, so I ask all our customers to be careful and not respond to such messages.” Sberbank commented on the situation. He added that the hacker attack on the bank was successfully repelled.
