Russian semiconductor manufacturer Mikron, headquartered in Zelenograd near Moscow, will produce chips for domestic SIM cards. In this respect informs Kommersant version.
The start of production is scheduled for 2024. New SIM cards will differ from existing identifiers in the cellular network with native cryptography support. New chips and protective algorithms are needed to ensure Russia’s technological independence from foreign vendors in the field of cellular communications.
It is noted that micron chips will be produced with a topological norm of at least 90 nm. The Zelenograd factory will not be able to produce more than 20 million chips per year, which, according to experts, is much less than the market needs 70-100 million SIM cards per year.
According to Kommersant, the software required to service the new SIM cards is already being tested by mobile operators.
