Earlier in May, a Twitter user talked about how WhatsApp on Android turns on the microphone and listens to it in the background. Google acknowledged the existence of this issue, which turned out to be a bug in the operating system, informs communication portal.

The statement of the user, who retweeted the message and stated that WhatsApp “cannot be trusted”, caught the attention of Elon Musk, the head of Twitter. Shortly after, WhatsApp representatives responded to the accusations, claiming that the problem was caused by the Android system and not by deliberate eavesdropping from the developers of the messenger. WhatsApp representatives asked Google to investigate.

Soon after, Google confirmed that the problem experienced by the WhatsApp user was caused by a bug in the privacy control panel in the Android operating system.

Therefore, users may think that the app is accessing their microphone or camera in the background, but as stated, this did not happen in reality. Google is actively working to find a solution to this problem, which will be fixed in the next Android update.

Formerly socialbites.ca saidTelegram surpassed WhatsApp for the first time in popularity among Russian schoolchildren and students.
