Telegram messenger surpassed YouTube, WhatsApp and Yandex in popularity among Russians aged 12 to 24 years. with reference to Mediascope research on this informs RBC.
According to analysts, 69% of 12-24 year olds used Telegram at least once a day in the first quarter of 2023. These indicators are comparable to the VKontakte social network and are higher than other large Internet sites. That is, YouTube had 65% coverage, WhatsApp – 65%, and “Yandex” – 64%.
In other age groups, Telegram ranks lower. Among users aged 25-34, it ranks sixth with 51% coverage, 64-year-olds ranks sixth with 29% coverage, and eighth with 12% coverage among users aged 65 and over. The leaders in all these groups are WhatsApp, Yandex and Google.
Teenagers aged 12 to 24 are also ahead of other age groups in terms of time spent on Telegram. On average, they spend 53 minutes per day on messenger, while other users spend between 32 and 36 minutes. Moreover, while a quarter of young users never use WhatsApp, this figure is only 10% for all age groups.
