Music streaming service Spotify has removed tens of thousands of AI-generated tracks. In this respect informs financial times.
It was stated that the decision was made after Universal Music Group (UMG), one of the leading record companies, accused the Boomy startup of liquidating the game counter and infringing on copyright.
Boomy is a service that allows you to create musical compositions based on a text description using generative artificial intelligence. More than 14 million tracks have been created on the platform since its launch in 2021, representing 14% of all recorded music in history. These tracks can be streamed to various streaming services and earn income by listening to them.
However, UMG claims that Boomy uses bots to artificially increase the stream count of their tracks, thereby cheating the copyright distribution system. The company came to Boomy’s attention after copyright infringement created a musical composition using the voices of Drake and The Weeknd without permission. Soon this track was removed from Spotify and Apple Music.
In response to these allegations, Spotify said it is tackling the game cheating issue and protecting the interests of honest artists. Spotify also highlighted that deleted tracks only make up 7% of all Boomy AI content on its platform.
