There is a lot of debate among smartphone users and experts on how best to put a smartphone on the table so as not to damage the screen – screen down or up. Kirill Sitnov, a teacher at the Moscow School of Programmers and an expert in hardware and gadgets, told socialbites.ca how to properly position the device so as not to damage its screen or camera.

“If you put your smartphone face down all the time, there is a chance that it will be scratched. Even a smooth table can contain a hard grain of sand, which can cause micro-scratches when rubbed. Over time, the smartphone will lose its stylish appearance. On the other hand, if there is a possibility that even a light object will fall on the smartphone, then the screen will remain intact – sometimes the fact that the keys have fallen on the smartphone is enough for a crack to appear. Especially if they fall from the side, the effect will be like an emergency exit hammer,” he said.

Also, if you put the smartphone with the screen down, it will rub less against the table surface. But in this case, there is a chance to scratch the camera lens, especially if it is a budget device. According to Sitnov, manufacturers often save on lens glass in the first place, so it is less resistant to scratches than the screen.

“If you keep the smartphone with the screen facing up all the time, micro-scratches may appear on the main camera and on the front if the screen is down. You can buy a protective glass for the camera, but then you compromise on the quality of the pictures: sharpness will be lost or less light will pass into the matrix, ”said the author.

At the same time, you can stick a protective film on the screen as recommended by the expert. It will protect both the screen and the front camera from scratches. For reliable protection against mechanical shock, it is better to use protective glass.

“To maintain the presentable appearance of the smartphone, you should use a high-edge case – so that neither the screen nor the camera touches the surface of the table. You can use a bookcase to carry in clothes pockets or in a backpack, ”Sitnov concluded.

Formerly socialbites.ca said about a Japanese smartphone with an unusual screen and military-standard protection.
