Samsung, South Korea’s largest company, may face a workers’ strike for the first time in its history. In this respect informs Bloomberg agency.

It was noted that the company was threatened with a strike by a local union, which currently includes about 9% of Samsung Electronics employees, that is, about 10 thousand people. The union’s main claim is that Samsung management does not allow workers’ association representatives to negotiate wage increases.

The union wants a 6% raise. Increasing the rate on this indicator is justified by Samsung employees alone, with inflation exceeding 4% in 2023.

On the other hand, Samsung management is not against a salary increase. However, senior managers presented unsatisfactory conditions. The company wants to increase the salaries of top performers by 4.1% and average performers by 2%.

Samsung & Marine Insurance Co union spokesman Oh Sang-Hun told Bloomberg that if Samsung Electronics employees decide to go on strike, the unions and 11 other subsidiaries of the South Korean conglomerate will likely support them.

Bloomberg writes that if there is a strike, it will come at a bad time for Samsung. According to journalists, the company is struggling to cope with financial problems as worldwide demand for chips and electronics has plummeted.
