Almost a quarter (23%) of Russians use their first name, the names of relatives and friends, and the nicknames of pets as passwords. socialbites.ca learned about this from a survey of the Netology education platform. At the same time, 70% of those who use names and nicknames as passwords believe that their accounts are protected securely.
The majority of respondents (61%) believe that a strong password should consist of random words using upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. Another 23% of respondents voted for combinations of words and numbers that are meaningful to the user with the addition of symbols. Less than 1% of respondents trust the password “Password” and the combinations “123123”, “abcd” or “0000”.
The Netology survey also showed that banking apps need the most secure password, according to Russians – 58% of respondents voted for this option. Email and photo cloud storage took second place with 10% of the votes. By entering the computer operating system, it entered the top three – 5% of Russians voted for this option. At the same time, the most important accounts for only 2% of Russians come from social networks. Only 1% of survey respondents are most concerned about instant messengers.
13% of the participants never update their passwords. 31% of respondents change every 3-6 months, every few years, and annually – 28% and 23% respectively. Only 5% of respondents update their passwords each month.
At the same time, the survey showed that 41% of Russians have faced hacking at least once in their lives. Almost half (48%) of respondents believe that any password can be cracked.
