Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman during The MacRumors Show podcast saidThat Apple will add the ability to install apps from third-party sources in iOS 17, but only for EU countries.
According to Gürman, Apple smartphones will indeed feature the ability to install apps, not from the App Store, but this feature will only be available in the European region. The company will have to take such a step to avoid violating the EU Digital Markets Act.
“I think it will be a European-only feature. I don’t think they will shoot themselves in the foot unless necessary and spread this feature all over the world,” he said.
Gürman added that the company will not announce such an opportunity during the WWDC conference as previously thought.
