Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snapchat messenger and Snap company, said he would be pleased to have TikTok, the popular Chinese social network, blocked in the US soon. It has been reported TechCrunch.

“We would love that,” said journalist Kara Swisher at a Snap Partner conference when asked about the risk of TikTok being banned for American users soon.

According to the broadcast, the audience reacted to this bold comment with applause and cheers. Spiegel also acknowledged that if US authorities manage to actually ban TikTok, it sets a dangerous precedent for other social platforms.

“It’s important for us to be thoughtful and really develop a regulatory framework to address security issues, especially as they relate to technology,” Spiegel said. He acknowledged that tech companies have legitimate national security interests that they must respect.

Snap’s TikTok rival, Snapchat Spotlight, currently has 350 million monthly users. The service is still inferior to both TikTok itself and YouTube Shorts. Each of the platforms already has more than 1 billion monthly users.

It was previously reported that tech giants are represented by Apple, Microsoft and Amazon. They said they couldn’t agree With the intention of US authorities to ban TikTok in the country.
