Medical sensor company Masimo is suing Apple. Portal reports MacRumors.

The plaintiff accuses the Cupertino company of kidnapping employees and stealing trade secrets for Apple Watch smartwatches. Apple is known to have hired Michael O’Reilly, Masimo’s chief physician, in 2013, and then Marcelo Lamego, technical director of Cercacor (a subsidiary of Masimo). Masimo believes this was done specifically to gain access to the brand’s trade secrets. By contrast, Apple claims that hiring is based solely on employee skills and that Masimo’s “secrets” have already been “long known to a wide variety of companies.”

Masimo believes Apple has registered five patents for a non-invasive method for determining the degree of oxygen saturation in the blood (pulse oximetry) using illegally obtained information. Masimo seeks a cash settlement of $3.1 billion in addition to co-ownership rights for the above patents.
