The threshold for entering the IT industry in 2023 has become higher due to the expansion of the list of requirements for candidates from companies – 37% of IT professionals are sure of this, according to the results of a survey conducted by the online university Skypro. Received by Weekek socialbites.ca, a service for in-demand professions and cooperation on projects and tasks.
At the same time, the majority of IT professionals (51%) are confident that it is easier for new people to enter the industry. When asked how respondents managed to enter a new field, 37% of respondents said they had taken private lessons. Another 18% received basic training in the industry, and one in six (16%) learned the basics of IT professions on their own using online articles and video tutorials.
According to the majority of respondents (47%), it will take six to 12 months for a specialist to transition from junior to intermediate. At the same time, 39% of respondents claim that experts will have to spend one to two years for such a transition. Another 9% believe it will take more than two years to become a mid-level expert in current realities.
“The IT industry certainly remains attractive to newcomers. The thesis that companies only want seniors doesn’t exactly describe the situation in the IT recruitment market. In the reality of the current talent shortage, growth between positions is possible faster than before. For example, with the necessary persistence, you can move from a junior specialist to an intermediate position in a year,” said Svetlana Shimanskaya, head of the career center at Skypro online university.
The survey was conducted among 1206 IT professionals working in April 2023.
