About 30% of Russian companies are successfully re-attacked by hackers within two years of an attack. Alexei Novikov, director of the Positive Technologies security specialist center, announced this to socialbites.ca. At the same time, about 10% of organizations were hacked twice in 2022, according to the expert.
“The main percentage consists of attacks by ART groups (well-organized hacker associations – ed.). In our incident investigation practice, we recorded how the ART group attacked the company to maintain access to the infrastructure, immediately after we responded and the client’s infrastructure was “cleaned” of intruders, ‘ explained Novikov.
According to him, in 2022, government agencies, healthcare institutions and industrial enterprises suffered the most repeated hacking. Novikov noted that they were included in the list of organizations most attacked in the Russian Federation last year.
“Often in repeated attacks, hackers try to use the same infiltration vector that was used for the first time. And only if it is not feasible, other means are sought,” added the expert.
In conclusion, Novikov said that the reasons for repeated attacks are mostly neglect of information security, as well as the slow modernization of companies’ IT and information security infrastructures.
