Skoltech Institute engineers developed Russia’s first fifth generation (5G) mobile communications base station. In this respect informs Publication “Kommersant” referring to the press service of the NTI Project Support Fund.
It should be noted that the product is ready-to-use software and hardware. According to the developers, the Russian 5G station is not inferior in performance to foreign analogues and can provide users with Internet connection speeds of up to 1.7 Gbps.
The station was not produced in a single copy, but in a specific batch for the deployment of the pilot section of the network. Skoltech plans to produce 100 kits by the end of the year.
The Skoltech solution has been developed in accordance with the international standards 3GPP and OpenRAN. Developers are in talks with market players to deploy 5G pilot zones. Their launch is scheduled for 2023-2024.
