Apple is in talks with suppliers to open a factory to manufacture MacBook laptops in Thailand. According to this Nikkithat’s why the Cupertino-based company continues to leave China amid geopolitical uncertainty.
The Apple suppliers involved in the talks have manufacturing facilities in Thailand, and three familiars are discussing the possible assembly and manufacture of components and modules for the MacBook.
“We have found an alternative option, as there is a huge amount of space in our factories in Thailand that could be dedicated to Apple,” said a senior manager at one of the suppliers.
According to him, the assembly of the MacBook will begin in Vietnam and then be completed at a factory in Thailand. “It will only take two or three days of logistics and customs clearance,” the senior executive said.
Another supplier’s manager said his company is building new factories for Apple in Thailand, and one is scheduled to be completed this year.
According to Nikkei, the American tech giant plans to start mass production of MacBooks in Vietnam in the first half of 2023. Thus, for the first time, a flagship device will be produced outside of China.
Sources said that Apple has been mass-producing the Apple Watch in Thailand for over a year, so the company has created business processes in the Asian country.
