Falling demand for PCs hit Apple the hardest

According to analysis company canalysIn the first quarter of 2023, approximately 54 million computers were sold, down 32.6% from the previous year.

It was noted that the personal computer market fell in double digits for the fourth quarter in a row. The biggest drop was recorded in the laptop segment: its sales fell 34% to 41.8 million units. Desktop shipments fell 28% to 12.1 million units. According to Canalys, 39% of the company’s partners complained of delays in personal computer deliveries of more than five weeks, and 18% for more than nine weeks.

Of the five leaders in the computer market, Apple showed the biggest drop: computer sales fell 45.5% to four million units. Dell’s deliveries decreased by 31% (9.5 million devices). Asus deliveries fell 29.3% to 3.9 million units. HP’s shipments fell 24% to 12 million. The best performer for the first quarter of 2023 was Lenovo, which retained its market leadership with more than 12.7 million devices shipped, down 30%.

According to analysts, recovery in demand and growth in computer sales will only be possible in the second half of 2023 or early 2024.
