ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence-based chatbot from OpenAI, invented a story about sexual harassment by American law professor Jonathan Turley. In this respect informs Edition of The Washington Post.
The neural network wrote a story where Turley made lewd comments about one of the students on one of his class trips to Alaska and tried to touch him. The ChatGPT bot cited these facts, citing an article published in The Washington Post in March 2018.
Turley learned from his colleague, a lawyer from California, that ChatGPT had made up such a story about him. As part of the experiment, the professor’s friend decided to ask the neural network which lawyers had been accused of harassment, he knows. One of them was Turley.
“It was pretty scary. “Such claims are extremely harmful to reputation,” he said.
The professor did not wait for the scandal and personally turned to The Washington Post. He told reporters he had never been to Alaska, let alone harassing students. The publication sided with the scientist, as the article cited by ChatGPT was never published.
