A test site with LTE-type communications has appeared in the Nekrasovskaya branch of the Moscow metro, which can be used for long-term unmanned train control. In this respect informs TASS referred to the words of the capital’s deputy mayor Maxim Liksutov.
It was noted that the pilot zone is deployed on only part of the Nekrasovskaya line and includes only two LTE base stations operating in a special range from 360 to 380 MHz. If the test is successful, the pilot project will be expanded to cover the entire metro line and will include 12 communication points.
“We have our own radio frequency band that will enable us to switch to drone control using the metro band in the future. I think the time for this is 5-10 years,” he said.
The deputy mayor stressed that it is not the authorities’ duty to save drivers. Unmanned control, he says, is just one of the possible possibilities. The system will only be used when clear benefits such as shortening the intervals between trains and increasing passenger safety are seen.
