The scammers have learned to steal money from the Russians without any card data – they only need a QR code, which they scam from victims over the phone. This has been officially announced telegraph channel Bank of Russia.
This scheme uses QR code withdrawal service available at some banks. Here’s how it works – the client generates a code for the amount he needs in the bank’s mobile app, and then brings it to the ATM browser to receive the money.
Under the guise of bank employees, scammers seek victims and report a “suspicious” withdrawal request. They ask them to send a screenshot of the QR code to “cancel” it. The unsuspecting victim sends a code that allows the attacker to withdraw their money from the nearest ATM.
“In this case, the QR code is actually an instruction to the bank to print money without entering a PIN code. Never share a QR code with strangers, do not store its image on mobile devices or in print. Remember that real bank employees never ask customers for QR codes,” Bank of Russia warns.
The Russians had been warned before. neural networks about theft of personal data.
