Introduced on April 1, Asus’ ROG Ally handheld console, which the community saw as an April 1 joke, turned out to be real. Already tested by tech blogger Linus Sebastian of the YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips. informs DTF Portal.

As Sebastian points out, ROG Ally is similar in size and shape to the Steam Deck, but with a different layout of buttons and bars. On the front, the console does not have trackpads like on the Steam Deck, but there are additional buttons on the back. ROG Ally has a 7-inch display with Full HD resolution and supports up to 120 Hz refresh rate, which is also not available on Valve console.

ASUS did not reveal details about the device’s hardware, saying it only runs on the dedicated and most powerful APU in the AMD Ryzen family.

Sebastian wasn’t able to measure average frame rates in games on the ROG Ally, but he said the device performed well. In Horizon Zero Dawn, he estimated the framerate at 45fps, with small drops to 20fps. It didn’t notice any FPS issues in Hollow Knight and recorded excellent image quality on the 120Hz screen.

The blogger also connected an external XG Mobile RTX 4090 graphics card to the ROG Ally and tested Horizon Zero Dawn in 4K resolution. To him, the game looked great.

ROG Ally’s release date and price have not been announced yet. ASUS promises that the cost of the device will be competitive.
