American skateboarder Tony Hawk announced that he managed to earn at least 4 million dollars by playing the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, waiving a one-time fee of 0.5 million dollars before the first game came out. He announced this on the podcast The Diary of a CEO. YouTube.
“As they approached the game’s release, they realized that the project was being actively discussed. They knew they were playing a good game overall, and they felt a surge of interest, so they offered to buy me future royalties just before the game’s launch,” he said.
According to Hawke, this happened just before the launch of Activision’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in 1999. The athlete revealed that he never received $ 0.5 million in his career, so he was even considering what to get the fee.
“However, I decided to take a risk and chose a percentage of game sales. It was lucky that my business was regular at that time, such as a skateboard company and recreational activities,” the skateboarder explained.
As a result, sales of the series have exceeded $1 billion, and Hawk regularly receives a percentage of that amount. He didn’t give an exact figure, just stating that he received a check for $4 million in 2018.
