The scammers have developed a new scheme to deceive the Russians with the help of an “online call” from a fake recruitment agency. In this respect DEA News said Sergei Khrenov, Director of Fraud and Loss of Income Prevention at MegaFon.

The essence of the scheme is that the scammer calls the victim in the guise of a personnel officer and offers to inform about the vacant position. To do this, he creates a conference on Skype or Zoom and invites a potential applicant to watch the presentation via video link.

After half an hour of conversation, the scammer gains the victim’s trust and then invites him to check the status of his own bank account, into which the salary will be deposited.

“To do this, the victim is asked to share a screen, open a banking app and transfer a certain amount to their cell phone account,” Khrenov said.

After that, the “recruiter” at the end of the conversation offers the victim to return the money on the phone to the account and sends him an SMS message. The buyer sees that the amount is correct, but does not understand exactly where his money will go. He approves the transaction and these funds go to the scammer.

According to the director of MegaFon, cases are recorded when the victim loses 10 thousand rubles in this program.
