The new form factor is stated to be one of the few growth points in the stagnant smartphone market. According to analysts, the cost of such devices will decrease over time, although “oyster shells” will remain only representatives of the premium segment. More precisely, this process is already observed – in 2023, according to IDC, the average price of a folding smartphone will fall by 6.8%.
Analysts write that gradually people stopped being afraid of a new form factor. This is illustrated by the fact that even in 2022, a financially difficult year, the cap market grew by 75.5%.
Although the niche in question is growing rapidly, it still has a modest share in the global smartphone market. In 2022 these devices accounted for 1.2% of total shipments. By 2027, this share should more than double to reach 3.5%.
