There are reports in the Russian media that “new rules” have been introduced for deleting accounts of Russians in WhatsApp and Telegram messengers from March 21. As socialbites.ca is convinced, this information is not true.
As you can see in the question and answer section messenger official websiteWhatsApp usually deletes inactive accounts after 120 days of inactivity, i.e. if the account holder has not connected to the messenger.
At the same time, there are cases when the service can delete an inactive account even after 45 days.
“We monitor inactive accounts to avoid misunderstandings about reused phone numbers. If an account has not been used for 45 days and then reactivated on a different mobile device, we will consider this an indication that the number is now owned by another user. In such cases, the profile photo and we delete the data of the previous account associated with the phone number, such as the Details section, ”says the messenger management.
WhatsApp has been following this protocol for several years, and it’s not a “new” rule. Also, it is not geo-referenced and works for users from all countries.
As for Telegram, this messenger has two ways to delete your own account – manually at the request of the owner and automatically after a certain period of inactivity. By default, this period is six months.
Formerly socialbites.ca we talked about itWhatsApp has threatened the UK with leaving the country if the new law is passed.
