An average of 25.2 thousand hours or 2 years and 10 months pass between the use of a hard disk and its failure. This is in my report. reported Secure Data Recovery (SDR) is a data recovery company that recovers data from corrupted storage media.
The company’s statistics are based on more than 2,000 hard drive experiences. These included models from brands such as Western Digital, Seagate, Hitachi, Toshiba, Samsung and Maxtor.
The best indication of “survival” was seen in Toshiba discs. On average, their resource is 34.8 thousand hours. Maxtor took the second place with 29.8 thousand hours. The first three were closed by Western Digital – 25.7 thousand hours. Hitachi disks turned out to be the least durable – on average they work for 18.6 thousand hours.
SDR also rated the number of memory sectors damaged at the time of failure. The less damage, the easier it is to recover information from a broken device.
Maxtor disks showed themselves best – on average, 228 sectors were damaged during the depletion of resources. Second place is Samsung (529 industries), and third place is Western Digital (628 industries). Hitachi drives proved to be the worst again, with a result of 3.3 thousand sectors.
SDR also noted a model that showed that the most fault-tolerant drives were those released before 2015.
