Chinese machine maker XPeng has tested a hybrid vehicle that can travel on public roads and fly like a helicopter. In this respect informs The edition of Gizmochina refers to the posting of one of the Chinese autobloggers on the social network Weibo.
The posted video captures the take-off of a station wagon, which, in addition to the usual chassis with wheels on the roof, has four large propellers reminiscent of four-bladed propellers. It is noteworthy that the propellers accelerate for quite a long time before takeoff – it takes about a minute.
After takeoff, the hybrid swing hangs several meters high. After the car flies forward a little, it returns to its original position without turning around and clumsily lands on the ground.
According to Gizmochina, the initial development of the XPeng flying car was motivated by the company’s desire to reduce the load on highways and reduce the noise pollution of megacities. As the video leak shows, the prototype is currently not coping very well with the final task. Screws spin very loudly and also create strong air currents that bend tree branches.
Gizmochina concluded that the flying car definitely needs a lot of work.
There is no word yet on when XPeng’s hybrid vehicle will hit the consumer market.
