GSC Game World, the Ukrainian company responsible for the development of STALKER 2: The Heart of Chernobyl, refused to comply with requests from blackmailers who threatened to leak material from the yet unreleased game to the network. Portal reports GameRant.
The developer confirmed the fact of the leak – the attackers hacked the account of one of the studio employees. Responsibility for this was taken by a group from “a Russian social network,” according to GSC Game World. The company noted that it is not the first time that it has encountered hacker attacks, blackmail and threats, but will not respond to it. The developers also asked fans not to monitor or distribute the leaked information in the event of a leak, so as not to spoil their impression of the final product.
A day ago, a post appeared in one of the VKontakte groups, referring to dozens of gigabytes of leaked information about STALKER 2, including cutscenes, concept art and a full-fledged plot. Hackers threatened to publish the game online if GSC Game World did not “reconsider its attitude towards players from Belarus and Russia”, as well as add Russian localization to the game. “There is no need to spoil the people’s game because of politics,” wrote the people’s ruler.
