Apple plans to add some “healthy hearing” features to AirPods in the coming years. In this respect informs MacRumors cites a Power On insider brief from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

At the moment, there are no details on exactly what the new features will be. However, according to Gürman, the headphones will receive some information about the user’s hearing status.

It is noted that AirPods already have Live Listening and Speech Acceleration features for those who are hard of hearing. Live Listen allows sound from your iPhone’s microphones to be routed to your headphones, and when Speech Acceleration is on, your headphones pick up people’s voices and amplify their voices.

Despite this, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) still does not approve AirPods as medical devices. At the same time, according to Bloomberg, Apple’s goal is FDA approval for AirPods. Gürman believes that Apple will achieve this within the next year or two.

MacRumors writes that this is not the first time information about the medical functions of AirPods has appeared in the information space. Earlier, insiders Ming-Chi Kuo and Kevin Lynch reported that future Apple earphone models will receive sensors to gain additional information about users’ health. Headphones will specifically learn to measure body temperature, heart rate, sweat density and more.
