Telegram users selling their anonymous numbers and usernames may face a new scam where attackers send fake cryptocurrencies. In this respect informs Portal “Durov’s Code”.
An example is when a scammer sends a small amount of a worthless JSTC token to the victim with an offer to buy a virtual number or nickname. Then, if the user “pecked”, the parties agree on a settlement in the amount of 4000 TON (about 688 thousand rubles), which the scammer allegedly sent to the seller’s wallet.
Also, the Tonkeeper app shows a transaction showing the receipt of 4000 TONS and for some reason not showing up in the account itself. After some time, the name of the transaction changes from TON to 4000 SCAM, and then the new token appears in the wallet itself. SCAM, unlike TON, does not carry any value.
As Durov’s Code indicates, immediately after the information about the transaction appears, scammers can convince the seller that the money will appear in his account very soon – you just have to wait and demand the transfer of the goods they paid for. After that, the victim transfers his username or virtual number.
How the scammers changed the name of the cryptocurrency is still unknown.
Telegram users who want to buy or sell their virtual numbers or aliases are advised to use only official platforms for trading.
