Bolivia begins production of radiopharmaceuticals at the facilities of the Center for Nuclear Research and Technology (TsNIT), built by Rosatom. The first batch of drugs for the treatment of cancer patients has already been delivered to hospitals in the cities of Santa Cruz and La Pasi. This was announced by President Luis Arce.

“Today our country has taken a big step forward. “Now we have not only this nuclear medicine center with the most modern infrastructure, but also the ability to independently manufacture the radiopharmaceuticals that we have had to import so far for cancer diagnosis,” he said. Luis Andre also emphasized that Bolivia now has advanced technologies to export radiopharmaceuticals to neighboring countries.

Rosatom announced that the new complex is part of a large-scale Russian-Bolivian cooperation project – the Center for Nuclear Research and Technology (TsYaIT), which is being built in El Alto at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level. The facility will enable the Bolivian healthcare system to manufacture a complete line of radiopharmaceuticals in-house for clinical trials of more than 5,000 patients annually. In the future, the operation of the complex will make it possible to completely replace the import of radiopharmaceuticals for the Bolivian network of nuclear medicine centers.

The facilities of the first phase of the nuclear research and technology center that Rosatom is building in El Alto are already starting to bring practical benefits to Bolivians, according to Kirill Komarov, head of development and international trade bloc at state company Rosatom. .

Together with our Bolivian partners, we have accomplished great things. The next stage is the expansion of the range of radiopharmaceuticals produced and the export of these drugs to neighboring countries. With the help of Rosatom experts, Bolivia is becoming one of the leading countries in the region in the field of nuclear technology.”
