The gamers received the sequel to the cult strategy series The Settlers with the super-cool sub-title New Allies. Innovation on the Metacritic aggregator site accepted User rating of 2.7 out of 10 based on 81 reviews.
Often, players criticize The Settlers: New Allies for its boring and mundane gameplay and paid in-game elements. In particular, players did not like the fact that the population of the settlement was no longer controlled by food sources, the progression trees were much shorter, and the detachments of combat units were replaced by single fighters.
“Fortunately, I have Settlers II to get rid of the unpleasant feeling the new episode leaves behind. Yes, this game is over 17 years old, but it has 100 times more gameplay than a modern product,” wrote user Tubey.
Journalists took the new product more warmly, but still received mixed reviews and scored 60 out of 100 based on 15 reviews. Only one of the critical reviews was positive with a score of 75 out of 100. Journalists criticize The Settlers: New Allies for the same problems players have: oversimplification of game mechanics that quickly becomes boring.
The first version of The Settlers: New Allies was released on PC on February 17, 2023. However, the game’s Metacritic rating didn’t come out until early March. In the second half of March, the new strategy will also be released on Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo consoles.
