In 2024, Apple’s flagship smartphone will receive an under-display Face ID scanner. This information has been confirmed by a new patent of the company, informs Patented Apple Portal.
However, according to analyst Ross Young, Apple plans to use under-display Face ID on the iPhone 16 Pro, which is expected to be released in 2024. Also, next year base iPhone models will receive similar technology. In addition, the company will equip the likely iPhone 18 Pro in 2026 not only with an “invisible” Face ID, but also with an under-screen front camera.
Similar information was shared by the Korean portal Elec. It is claimed that the under-screen sensors on the iPhone will work similarly to the front camera of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4.
Face ID first appeared on the iPhone X – the scanner and the front are placed in a cutout in the mesh, called “bangs”. In the iPhone 13 series, this notch narrowed even further, and a year later on the iPhone 14 Pro, the company replaced the notch with Dynamic Island. In the future, the company is likely to abandon such solutions in favor of invisible sensors to be placed under the screen.
