“Rosatom” began testing domestic personal computers “Bober” based on the “Baikal” processor TASS.
“The concern has bought the first domestic batch of Bober personal computers based on the Baikal processor and is preparing to introduce them into the infrastructure of the manufacturing company,” said a representative of the state organization.
According to Oleg Shalnov, head of IT project management and integration at Rosenergoatom (concern is part of Rosatom), the switch to native processors is an important step towards achieving technological independence in sensitive strategic areas such as the nuclear industry.
Bober is a universal Russian computer developed by Delta Computers based on the Baikal-M processor. The main operating system on computers is Astra Linux Special Edition “Novorossiysk”. At the same time, Bober is certified with a wide variety of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows and Rosa Linux.
Maksut Shadayev, former head of the Ministry of Digital Development explained the lack Russian processors have problems with Taiwan. According to the minister, if all chips produced in Taiwan were shipped to domestic customers, the number of devices with Russian “Baikal” and “Elbruz” processors could be greater.
