Security vulnerabilities have been discovered in iPhone smartphones that allow a hacker to completely format the drive of any device and before that gain access to the victim’s device’s photos, messages, microphone and camera. It has been reported Dark Reading.
Apple’s exploits were noted to have independently entered the database under two numbers: CVE-2023-23530 and CVE-2023-23531. Trellix researcher Austin Emmitt pointed out that the new vulnerabilities “allow to bypass code signing to execute an arbitrary script,” meaning an attacker could perform independent actions on the victim’s device.
The error is due to the NSPredicate system, which was originally designed to allow app developers to filter lists of objects on the device. “However, the ability to dynamically generate and run code on iOS has been an official feature from the beginning,” Emmitt said.
The researcher assured that exploiting the vulnerabilities is only possible if the attacker already has access to the device. Emmitt explained that gaining access could be through phishing or other social engineering techniques.
