Googlers were deprived of their personal jobs – they were asked to share their desks and alternate working days at the office with their “deskmates”. This was reported by the TV channel. CNBC with reference to the company’s internal letters.
The new desk-sharing model in the office will launch in April 2023 at the five largest Google offices in the US (Kirkland, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Sunnyvale).
“Most Google employees will now share a desk with another Google employee,” the internal document says. According to the authors of the idea, employees will come to the same table on different days.
Workers were asked to coordinate appointments with a deskmate and superiors to “ensure a positive work experience in the new shared environment.”
According to an internal document, if an employee arrives at the office on a different day, it will not be a personal workplace.
Some employees began to mock management’s attempt to explain the measures in a positive way, citing the benefits of a hybrid office-from-home approach. “A simple statement ‘We are reducing office space to reduce costs’ makes their leadership more believable,” one employee said in an internal email.
