Apple has received all existing orders for the production of first-generation 3nm chips at TSMC, the world’s largest processor factory. In this respect informs The publication MacRumors cites data from the analytical agency DigiTimes.
In connection with this, it was noted that other smartphone, computer and other electronics manufacturers will not be able to order the latest processors from TSMC until at least the second half of 2023. Therefore, in 2023, Apple will most likely be the only player in the market that will have time to release products based on processors with a 3 nm topology.
MacRumors noted that Apple will likely use the new chips in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, as well as in the next-generation MacBook Air. At least in the iPhone, it is said that using the latest processors will reduce the power consumption of devices by 35%. The impact of the move to 3nm on the MacBook should be even more pronounced because unlike the iPhone, Apple’s current laptop processors are made with a 5nm topology, not a 4nm one.
MacRumors also noted that after the first half of 2023, the situation of Apple’s competitors may not improve much, as the Cupertino IT giant is rumored to have requested large orders for second-generation 3nm processors from TSMC.
