Unidentified hackers broke into data centers by stealing logins and passwords from more than two thousand technology companies worldwide. It has been reported Bloomberg.
The data centers of GDS Holdings and ST Telemedia Global Data, located in China and Singapore, respectively, were hacked. In addition to IT giants such as Alibaba, Amazon, Apple, Huawei and Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, BMW and Walmart kept personal data of their customers.
The theft reportedly occurred a year ago. All this time, the attackers were able to access the stolen information and put it up for sale, asking for $175,000 (about 13 million rubles) last month. According to the hackers, the amount of data stolen “surprised” them. In February, the entire series was merged into the dark web for free for public use. Hacked companies are known to reset passwords, so the published information no longer poses a threat.
