The team at Digital Foundry, the technical arm of the Eurogamer game publication, tested Hogwarts Legacy versions for different consoles and felt that the new product looked and worked best on PlayStation 5.

Hogwarts Legacy has several graphics presets. For example, in the “Performance” mode, the novelty should work at a resolution of 1440p and a frame rate of 60 FPS. While the PlayStation 5 maintains the specified picture parameters, the Xbox reduces the frame rate to 48 FPS in difficult scenes.

PlayStation 5 gives players the same graphics designed by the developers in other modes (Quality, Ray-traced Quality, and Balanced). Drops occur only when changing scenes, for example when switching from inside to outside or vice versa. But even then, the FPS drop is small and only lasts for a few minutes.

In contrast, the Microsoft console usually resets both resolution and framerate. The problem occurs most often in “Ray traced quality” mode.

Digital Foundry also tested the Hogwarts Legacy version for Microsoft’s entry-level console, the Xbox Series S. It has three presets – “Performance”, “Quality” and “Balanced”. In any case, the picture parameters were declared much more modest compared to the Xbox Series X. In this way, the new game works more stable on Xbox Series S.

As a result, Digital Foundry said that Hogwarts Legacy for PS5 is a perfect match to the Xbox versions. Experts also expressed their hope that in the future Avalanche Software (developers of Hogwarts Legacy) will release a patch that will improve the technical state of the game on Microsoft consoles.
