Mark Zuckerberg announced on his Instagram page (Meta’s owner is recognized as an extremist and is banned in Russia) an analogue of Telegram channels for a social network called Meta Channel (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

To join the channel, you must subscribe to the author’s Instagram page. According to Zuckerberg, it will be possible to post text posts, images and polls on such channels. They promise to add support for collaborative posts, Q&A sessions, and other features in the future.

The head of the company also announced the emergence of channels on Messenger and Facebook (the owner of Meta was considered extremist and banned in Russia) in the coming months.

Subscribed users can reply to posts. There is no comment function.

Most likely, when the Meta developers created their channels, they were inspired by the functionality of Telegram, where the channels appeared in 2015. Telegram channels operate on a subscription model and are most likely a news feed with blog items they are now trying to implement on Instagram.

Formerly socialbites.ca saidMeta will shut down Instagram’s failing Live Shopping service.
